Curious History

October 10th, 2017

Hi cousins.  The October issue of Connecticut Magazine (my home state) has an interesting article entitled “The Lost Lighthouse Keeper” by Erik Ofgang.  It’s the tale of one Frederick A. Jordan, a former keeper of the Penfield Reef Lighthouse at Bridgeport, CT.  In 1916 Mr. Jordan perished when his small boat capsized in a storm as he left the lighthouse to return to his family in Port Jefferson, NY.  The article refers to ‘haunting’ tales about Mr. Jordan.  There are a few references in the three volume set of our Jordan Family history for Frederick A. Jordan, but none match the time frame of this particular Frederick Jordan.  Unfortunately I could not figure out how to ‘rip’ the article from Connecticutmagazine.com to include with this post.  You should be able to read it there if you’re interested.  What I would really like to know is if anyone out there can figure out if the subject of the article connects to our Rev. Robert in some way.  I would like to hear about it.
